Former Liverpool Midfielder Naby Keita Joins Werder Bremen

Keita, who returns to Germany after his previous spell with RB Leipzig left the Reds following the expiration of his contract.

The 28-year-old racked up 129 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side across all competitions and scored 11 goals in the process.

The Guinea international made only eight league appearances this season having been hampered by injuries, however, he received an emotional send-off from teammates and fans last month.

During his time at Anfield, he helped the Merseysiders win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

Keita said: "I'm really excited for my new challenge here in Bremen.

'I was impressed by what the club told me about the setup here and Werder's style of play. The coach gave me a really good feeling and showed how I can help the team."

Keita was one of the standout players for Leipzig prior to his move to Liverpool in 2018. He scored 20 goals and provided 11 assists in 81 games in all competitions.

"A number of clubs are obviously going to be interested when a player like Keita is available on a free transfer," said Clemens Fritz, head of scouting and professional football at Werder Bremen.

"He suffered an injury setback at the start of this season and that meant he didn't play as often as he'd have liked to.

"We now want to get him back to his best."

Like Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Roberto Firmino have all departed the club following the expiration of their contracts.
