Pittsburgh Steelers Could Make Shocking Post-Draft Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers made significant moves to improve their offensive line during the 2024 NFL Draft, securing Troy Fautanu alongside Broderick Jones, signaling a potential shift in their starting lineup dynamics.

However, amidst this upgrade, the spotlight now shines on the future of current starter Dan Moore Jr.

With the addition of Fautanu and Jones, speculation looms about Moore’s tenure with the team. NFL insider Ari Meirov suggests that a trade might be on the horizon post-draft, as the Steelers appear confident in their newfound offensive tackle duo.

“Dan Moore Jr. has started 49 games in three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but his time as a starter could end with the addition of Troy Fautanu. Moore had his fair share of struggles, but Pittsburgh could consider keeping him as a reserve option. He’s entering the final year of his rookie contract.”

While Moore could potentially transition to a swing tackle role, concerns surfaced during previous training camps, particularly regarding his performance on the right side.

With Spencer Anderson and Dylan Cook also in the mix, the Steelers may not feel compelled to retain Moore, who holds valuable starting experience and could fetch interest in the trade market.

Fautanu’s ascension to a starting role hinges on his performance during training camp and the preseason. However, the Steelers’ enthusiasm for their draft selection implies a future where Moore might not feature prominently in their plans for the 2024 season. Should he fail to secure the starting spot, a trade scenario becomes increasingly likely.

The Steelers’ offensive line overhaul reflects their commitment to fortifying the protection around either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. While Moore has contributed to the team’s efforts in the past, the emergence of promising prospects like Fautanu and Jones present an opportunity for Pittsburgh to explore alternative lineups.

As training camp approaches, the Steelers face a pivotal decision regarding Moore’s future. Whether they opt to retain him as depth or capitalize on his trade value, it will be a competition to watch.
