Embattled head coach Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles entered Sunday’s season finale against the Washington Football Team with a 4-10-1 record and completely out of the NFL playoff race.
Apparently, Pederson took that to heart during the game in front of empty seats in Philadelphia. The tank job was on in every possible way.
A day that started with former No. 2 pick Carson Wentz reportedly set to request a trade culminated with Pederson replacing Jalen Hurts with Nate Sudfeld at quarterback. This is an actual thing that happened during an ugly 20-14 loss that helped hand the seven-win Washington Football Team “earn” the NFC East title.
By virtue of this loss, the Eagles will be selecting No. 6 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. More than anything else, that’s probably why Pederson decided to pull the epic tank job.
Even then, it’s not a great look for the Eagles or the NFL as a whole. Sure the six-win Giants should not have been relying on Philadelphia to defeat Washington to capture the division. That’s fine. It’s poverty. With that said, the Eagles absolutely embarrassed themselves.
This comes on the heels of reports surfacing that Pederson will be back with the organization after previous suggestions were that they would fire him.
One now has to wonder what’s happening behind the scenes. Regardless of the situation, players don’t want to lose in the fashion we saw from the Eagles on Sunday night. The NFL also can’t be too happy considering it hand-picked this matchup to be the final “Sunday Night Football” game of the season.

I’m fine with tanking as an organizational process (76ers). It’s smart sometimes. But blatantly tanking in the middle of a game like the Eagles just did is totally different. Players don’t like tanking. I hope Doug Pederson just lost his locker room forever

"I still haven't seen enough of him yet to make a decision moving forward. Saw a couple of good things but there are certainly some things he needs to work on. I look forward to seeing him compete next year."

If an Eagles player recovers a fumble and starts running toward the end zone along the Philly sideline, would Doug Pederson trip him?

If Doug Pederson wanted to guarantee a loss for the Eagles he should have just started Carson Wentz.

This stunt by Doug Pederson isn't really about the Giants, at least it shouldn't be.

This has to make the rest of the league angry as hell.
