Detroit Lions Teddy Bridgewater Wearing No. 50 Is Temporary
Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

Reporters joked after practice that new Detroit Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater should also be participating in linebacker drills at practice.

Seeing a quarterback wearing No. 50 is not all that common

But with a limited selection to choose from, the veteran will don the No. 50 for the next couple of weeks, until he must pick a number that is allowed by the league.

“I’ma wear 50, man. It’s preseason, you can wear whatever you want," Bridgewater explained. “We’ll figure something out in the regular season.”

NFL rules state that signal-callers can only don jerseys with numbers between 0-19.

Impression of Dan Campbell

Bridgewater highlight the sentiment that Detroit's third-year head coach has not changed since becoming the face of an NFL team.

During his time as a position coach with the Saints, Bridgewater recalled Campbell displayed the same level of energy and player-friendly attitude.

"He's the same man. He's the same exact, same," said Bridgewater. "And that's rare in this league. You see some guys who might have been position coaches, they become head coaches and certain things might change within them. He's the same. He's fired up every day. I mean, you guys know him. You guys have gotten to know him very well. And now I'm just excited just to be here."

Respect for Lions organization

Bridgewater started his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. Despite the Lions not being division contenders annually, the veteran signal-caller has always had respect for the Lions.

"My rookie year, I got sacked like six times, threw three interceptions," Bridgewater recalled." "I've always had a lot of respect for this organization. The players that have played for this team, this organization. They've carried themselves with class. The perception hasn't changed to me, and I'm pretty sure to the league, everyone was on high alert. When I was in the division, we always respected Detroit."
